AI visibility checkers are tools that detect when AI assistants fetch, crawl, or cite your website. You need one if you depend on search traffic and have noticed that fewer people are clicking through to you, because AI answers are increasingly the first place people get information.
The old web had a clear funnel. Google indexed your pages, people searched, they clicked. That funnel still exists, but a new one sits on top of it. ChatGPT and Perplexity now answer questions directly with sources attached. Sometimes the answer is enough and no click happens. Sometimes the AI cites your page and the reader clicks through. Either way, you have no visibility into it unless you measure it.
That is what an ai visibility checker does. It watches the server-side traffic from AI crawlers, classifies them, and shows you which of your pages are being read. This is not a guess. It is server logs.
How AI crawlers are classified
AI crawlers are not a single group. Kymo classifies them into three types, and the distinction matters.
- ai_answer: a live fetch made for one person's question. Examples include ChatGPT-User, Claude-User, Perplexity-User. These are triggered in real time when someone asks a question.

A training crawl might mean your content is in a data set. An indexing crawl means an AI engine is considering you as a source. An ai_answer fetch means an actual user asked a question and your site was pulled in to help form the answer. That is the closest thing to a measurable signal of AI visibility.

What a checker reports
A proper tool gives you more than a count of bots. You want to know which pages were fetched, how often, by which crawler category, and whether any of those fetches turned into a real human visitor clicking through from an AI referral.

What it does not do

If your pages are getting fetched but nobody clicks through, the checker shows you that. You still have to figure out why, usually by comparing the prompt context against your content. Consider it a diagnostic, not a cure.
How Kymo handles analytics differently
Kymo does not use cookies or localStorage for tracking. The visitor identifier is a salted server-side hash that rotates at UTC midnight. "Unique visitors" means unique per day. Raw IPs and user agents are never stored.
This matters because it survives ad blockers and privacy regulations. Cookies get blocked, scripts get blocked, but the server-side receiver still sees crawlers coming in. You get a complete picture of both human and AI traffic without a cookie banner.

How the AI visibility report works in practice
The report answers three questions.

The prompt inference is the most useful part. A fetch of your pricing page by a ChatGPT user tells you someone was asking about pricing. If your page gets fetched but yields no clicks, you know the answer was swallowed without a visit.

Do you need one?
