Amzn-SearchBot: Amazon's Search Crawler
What is Amzn-SearchBot?
Amzn-SearchBot is the Amazon crawler that improves search experiences in Amazon products such as Alexa. Allowing it makes your content eligible to appear in those experiences. Amazon documents that Amzn-SearchBot does not crawl content for generative AI model training, which is the job Amazonbot does.

What this looks like in your logs
203.0.113.42 - - [25/Oct/2026:09:14:07 +0000] "GET /pricing HTTP/1.1" 200 18432 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko; compatible; Amzn-SearchBot/0.1) Chrome/W.X.Y.Z Safari/537.36"
The part that identifies the request is the token Amzn-SearchBot, inside the quoted user-agent field at the end of the line. Everything before it is the ordinary shape of a Common Log Format entry, and the address shown is a documentation address rather than one Amazon uses.
What Amzn-SearchBot does not do
Amzn-SearchBot does not send you a visitor, and it attaches no citation, so a read by it can never turn into a click.
Amzn-SearchBot does not train a model on what it reads, so blocking it changes what Amazon can answer and not what Amazon learns.
Amazon publishes no crawl frequency for Amzn-SearchBot, so any schedule you read elsewhere is somebody's estimate rather than a documented figure.
How Kymo classifies it
Kymo files Amzn-SearchBot under Amazon as indexing, classified from the HTTP request on the server rather than from anything running in a browser.
A hit from Amzn-SearchBot appears on the Crawlers dashboard and is deliberately left out of the reads on the AI Traffic page. An index sweep is bulk work done before anyone asks, so counting it there would inflate the read number. A person can still arrive later from an answer built on that index, and the people count includes them either way.

Allow it or block it
Blocking Amzn-SearchBot removes your content from Amazon search experiences such as Alexa, and it does not stop Amazonbot collecting training data. Amazon documents that a robots.txt file which does not name Amzn-SearchBot but allows other search crawlers is read as allowing it, and that a change takes about 24 hours to take effect.
| Allow it if | Block it if |
|---|---|
| You want to appear in Amazon answers, because this crawler builds the index those answers cite. | You accept disappearing from Amazon answers. This is the most expensive block on this page, and it is the one made most often by accident. |

Questions
How do I know a request claiming to be Amzn-SearchBot is genuine?
Amazon publishes the IP ranges Amzn-SearchBot uses at https://developer.amazon.com/amazonbot/searchbot-ip-addresses/. Check the requesting address against that file. A user-agent string alone proves nothing, because anyone can send one.
Does blocking Amzn-SearchBot also block Amazonbot?
No. Amzn-SearchBot and Amazonbot are separate tokens, and Amazon treats each one on its own. A rule naming Amzn-SearchBot leaves Amazonbot free to carry on collecting your content for Amazon model training. To stop that as well, name Amazonbot in a rule of its own.
Will I see Amzn-SearchBot in Google Analytics?
No. Google Analytics runs a JavaScript tag in a visitor's browser, and Amzn-SearchBot reads your HTML and leaves without running any script. Server-side logging is the only way to record it.
Does Amzn-SearchBot send traffic back to my site?
No. Amzn-SearchBot takes content and sends nothing back. A hit appears in your logs as a request with no visitor behind it.

See this bot in your own logs
Amzn-SearchBot decides whether you appear in Amazon answers, and a browser tag cannot tell you whether it ever came.
Kymo reads the HTTP request on your server, so a crawler that never runs JavaScript is still recorded. You see which bots reached the site, which pages they took and how often, next to your human traffic.
